About YPD

Take a guess. What does YPD stand for?

Youthful Pregnant Dinosaurs? Yelling Psycho Dogs? Yearning Pensive Drummers?

Close...ok, not really. Welcome to Young People's Discipleship!

There is a high probability that over the coming weeks and months, through these discussions, books, and relationships... your life could very well be changed forever. The topics to study, questions to ask ourselves, and practices to put in place, are ones that will be re-visited time and again throughout our lifetimes. They don't get old or out of date. They're timeless. You are being given an incredible opportunity to- at an early age- lay a foundation of understanding and perspective about how the Gospel applies to the mundane. This will serve you for the rest of your life!

We'll have two courses: one for the lads, one for the lassies. The foundations are the same, but some of the topics we'll discuss as we get deeper into it, are gender-specific.

Sept 19th
Laying a foundation

In our first meeting, we'll start off getting to know each other a little better. Maybe playing some games, filling out a "quiz" or hearing each other's testimonies. This will be a time for us to lay out for you what our meetings will look like, where they'll take place, and what you can expect. We'll outline the topics we'll be discussing throughout the year. We'll set goals for how we each want to grow in our relationship with God and get excited together about how He will change us as we behold His glory! He has promised to complete the work He's begun!

October 17th
The Gospel

Where would we be without the gospel? Running straight for hell, dead in our sins, helpless, and with no hope. Hearing and understanding the transactions of sin and righteousness that God made between us and Christ as He bore our sin on the cross... changes everything. It is the foundation of our lives. It is our only joy.

We will be discussing the importance of preaching the gospel to ourselves in the mundane aspects of our daily lives; ways we can train our minds and engage our hearts so as not to be so "familiar" with the gospel that our hearts aren't affected or our "care-meter" for the things of God is low.

The gospel doesn't get old. We should never "move on" from it. Let's pitch a tent together and live inside of it- discovering, re-discovering, meditating on, and enjoying the truths that have transformed our lives.

November 21st
Spiritual Disciplines

"Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it; Prone to leave the God I love…" the familiar lyrics of an old hymn can be our own experience far too often. Sin is crouching at the door. We have an enemy who

prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour." (1 Peter 5:8) Disciplining our hearts and minds (and schedules!) to make time with the Saviour in prayer, fasting, reading, meditating on and memorizing God's Word, will make a profound difference in our lives. Not only do we enjoy grace more, but we experience unwavering peace even amidst trials- and we grow in our love and appreciation for the gospel. When our hearts are full of the joy of fearing God and we are amazed by His character, we are more victorious in our fight against sin!

Come, join us Saturday mornings at YPD. This is not something you want to miss out on. Put it on your calendar, make the sacrifices, do the homework. You'll be so glad you did!
